2022.01.19 02:25 jacobhernandez Is GTX 1060 6GB + AMD ATHLON 200GE good enough to play games at 60 FPS?

I was looking to buy a GTX 1060 and pair it with my Athlon 200GE setup. Spending is limited so I can't buy a new CPU. I have 16GB of RAM and have a 500W power supply.
Should I go with it?

2022.01.19 02:25 hedawiqq Are there any laws around accuracy of title of online product listing?

I find it pretty frustrating that a lot of Amazon listings would have misleading titles.
For example, if you search for "Silk Pillowcase"
you'll see listings like "Silk Pillowcase 2 Pack 20x30 inches",
and then when you go to the description, it will say "100% polyester". I have couple problems with this.
Silk is a type of a fiber, just like how a polyester is.

  1. Misleading title
    1. To me, this is a misleading practice, because the title doesnt even say faux/fake/imitation. A user who is clicking this has reasons to believe that it is a pillowcase made out of silk fiber.
  2. Misleading search result
    1. IMO it is unacceptable that the FIRST search result when you search is a non-silk pillowcase, when you search "silk pillowcase" on amazon. I know the result varies by region/user due to personalization/algorithm etc, but it is at least the case for me right now when i search on
  3. Proportion of false results
    1. In the first page of search with "Silk Pillowcase", there are 56 results, out of them, 21 results are not silk (although most of them say "silk" in the title), and 35 of them describe themselves as silk in the description as well. To make matters worse, most of the "not actually silk" ones are located in the upper half of the page.
  4. Some listings are not transparent even in the description
    1. for example:
    2. describes themselves as "Silky satin". Satin is a type of a weave, and does not describe the fiber content. Satin used to be heavily associated with "Silk" (as in most of the satin fabrics were made out of silk), so older people will assume that "satin" would mean a silk fabric. Nowhere in the listing mentions polyestesynthetic. There is a phrase "the resulting material is stronger than silk", but it's not "CTRL+F"'able because it's embedded as part of an image. Someone really hash to do a careful reading.
    3. There is a FTC labeling law that requires textile items to have a permanent label that specifies the fiber content:
      1. ,
      2. and there is a rule that specifies how the fiber content can be named. They have to be generic names like Cotton, Wool, Silk, Acetate, Polyester (list:
      3. I'm really baffled why this is not enforced for online product listings?
I'm not trying to sue Amazon or anything like that, but I do feel like there needs to be some kind of mechanism to disincentivize this behavior. The product listing page doesnt have a button to report the listing. IMO if there is a FTC labeling law that requires textile items to have a permanent label on the product, so that the consumers are not confused, there's gotta be a law on the online product itself as well where the consumers cannot see those labels in person.

Basically I’ve seen this around and was wondering how good it was/what it covers. Could it be applicable to 3D animation? Do you prefer another resource (theoretically disregarding price, only looking at quality)

2022.01.19 02:25 pkjoan My God, waiting for the Student Visa was hell.

VFS is by far the most incompetent company I ever had the displeasure of dealing with. It took me 19WD to get my Visa, when the freaking thing was already issued on January 5th and I had to wait until January 18. And don't get me started on the big issue I had with them to get a refund for a mistake they made. I had an appointment on December 13th but because they didn't have internet connection, they asked me to cancel the appointment, book another one and ask for a refund. Requesting a refund was hell.
Thankfully, I have my visa now.

2022.01.19 02:25 Ajreil Asteroid mining has the potential to make metals that are rare on earth fairly inexpensive. What technologies will this enable?

Easy access to steel spawned the Industrial Revolution. The Information Age was built on silicon. Graphine promises to create incredibly dense batteries. Access to new materials has been responsible for many paradigm shifts in technology.
Asteroids contain enormous amounts of rare metals like gold and platinum. If we could mine these reliably, what technologies could this enable?
